Rob, owner of SwimSecure, has been teaching swimming for over a decade. He started out teaching for the City of Toronto, before working with the Miles Nadal Jewish Commnunity Centre and the Toronto District School Board. He also has experience teaching skiing and English, which has shaped his swimming instruction philosophy.
SwimSecure is a boutique swim school that specializes in private swimming lessons, especially for those who haven't found success at larger swim schools focused primarily on group classes. At the moment our main focus is private lessons and parent and tot classes, but we can provide small-group lessons to swimmers of all ages and levels. Rob started SwimSecure as part of a youth entrepreneurship program offered by YES (Youth Employment Services) in conjunction with the Ontario Ministry of Business and Economy. The program helps high school, college, and university students launch their own companies by providing mentorship and support and by monitoring the initial growth of their businesses. Helping Rob out is an instructional team composed of handpicked instructors who have stood for their acute understanding of learning and strong communication skills. |
What We Do
SwimSecure provides swimming lessons to the community in and around Central Toronto. We started providing lessons October, 2014. So far we are focusing primarily on parent-and-tot classes and private swimming lessons for both adults and children.
In parent and tot classes, we teach parents how to instill comfort and confidence in their infants and toddlers in the aquatic environment. We teach basic skills like bubble blowing, facial submersion, floats, glides, and kicking. This makes swimming lessons a breeze when those tots are older, familiarizing them with skills they'll later refine, and ensuring that swimming lessons aren't anxiety inducing. |
We're passionate about SwimSecure for a few reasons: First and foremost, it allows us to pass on the benefits of being a confident and safe swimmer to individuals and families in and around central Toronto. Aside from mitigating drowning, knowing how to swim opens up fun opportunities like swimming in open water, scuba diving, and surfing.
SwimSecure provides a great opportunity to our employees, most of whom are post-secondary students. Joining our team gives employees opportunities to develop hands on business experience and to earn a very competitive wage. Additionally, SwimSecure helps keep pools in the Toronto School Board open, since if companies like ours didn't rent their pools, they would have to close many of them. Finally, we're most passionate about the company because of the inherent satisfaction swim instruction rewards us with: when 6 year old Paul finally learns – because of one of our instructors – to breath on the side, while doing front crawl without stopping, this makes our day! |
